Why is Mercedes insurance, especially the C class, so cheap?

It's funny how I was qouted a cheaper insurance rate for a 2003 Mercedes, than a 1994 Toyota Corolla.

Why is Mercedes insurance, especially the C class, so cheap?
M-B purchasers tend to be older drivers with high income. That demographic is a pretty safe bet for insurance companies. They are also less frequently stolen and tend to have owners who are fastidious about protecting the car.
Reply:DUH! which person is more likely to wreck there car? Mercedes Benz $40,000 car owner or a $12,500 Toyota Corolla owner? Scion cars have astronimical insurance rates because lots of teen age drivers crash there scions. I know we pay for the sin's of others.
Reply:Insurance premiums in most states are calculated by the owner's postal ZIP code, the driver's age, marital status, insurance claims, amount of insurance coverage, and driving record.
Reply:H_charlies is right on. I used to have hyundai tiburon and now a c320. Guess what, the tiburon costs more to insure and for good reason.

Suprisingly, if people cut me off now, i really do not care. I even slow down for others to enter my lane. For some reason, you are a more relaxed and careful driver in the c320 versus the tiburon. I have even recently driven to work and kept my speed at 70. I am 24 years old. Its crazy. My average speed on the tiburon was 85. I guess there is some reason in the insurance difference.

Ofcourse the active and passive safety features do not hurt.

How many mercedes cars have you seen in an accident recently?
Reply:There are several factors that go into insurance rates.

Some answers here are logically flawed as they relate to your question. While driver age, sex, income, etc, do play a role, those factors DON'T CHANGE depending on your car.

What does change is engine power, braking ability, handling ability and safety features. Unless you are insuring an AMG model C-class, your C class is slow as a slug. That helps insurance. Mercedes is also a world leader in safety. The safety features built into your car (air bags, DSC, ABS, etc.) make you more likely to be able to avoid an accident.

Also, the solid structure and crash absorbtion help keep down the most expensive cost -- bodily injury in the event of an accident.

So, if an 18 wheeler tries to sideswipe you on the highway in a Corolla, not only do you not have the capability to avoid the accident like you may in an MB, your injuries will be much more severe in the 94 Corolla.

These factors offset the higher cost to fix the 2003 Mercedes by far.
Reply:What the comany is REALLY insuring is YOU...

That is the MAIN risk since cars don't drive themselves...
