Is C++ college class difficult for a person who knows nothing about programming?

matlab7.0 is the only software with code that I used before as I need to use that when i took my Calulus class......except that I know nothing

Is C++ college class difficult for a person who knows nothing about programming?
I took programming my freshman year of college and it was C++, I knew a small bit of C++, but the class covered aloooot more than what I knew. The hardest part of C++ is pointers.

I learned it real quick, but I think very logically. You just have to remember that the computer cannot do something unless you tell it to.

on a side note:

I also had Matlab (in EE) at the same time as C++, and there for a while I was mixing the languages. lol, it doesn't work,
Reply:Different courses will be aimed at different people. Check the course requirements or pre-requesits before signing up or talk with the proffessor.
Reply:PHP is the easiest language and is a good introduction to the programming world. However, I wouldn't be afraid of jumping into C++.
Reply:C++ isn't that difficult if you are familiar with programming concepts. C/C++ deal with memory addresses (pointers) which confuses some people who are used to more simple languages.

I probably wouldn't start with C++. Java might be better. Many of the same conceptual ideas without all the memory management issues.
Reply:depends on the teacher/prof, but be prepared for rough times. Especially if you plan to go deep into the material.
Reply:yes, JAVA is far worse to start with.
Reply:C++ is a difficult language especially if you don't already know straight C. However, if you are willing to read a one or two intro books before the course you should do okay. I would read C++ Primer Plus (5th Edition) by Stephen Prata and maybe a general book on Object Oriented programming.
Reply:YES! C++ goes hand and hand with science and math! Visual Basic might be best to start out and if you don't like it you can always drop the class~
