Texas law states that Class C misdemeanors are punishable only by a fine not to exceed $500. Is this true?

in texas: i'm not sure this applies to ALL class 'c' misdemeanors. i have one defendant paying on a 'no insurance' traffic ticket that received a $900 fine. but he had 23 previous convictions for the same charge out of the same court. THAT is why his fine was so high.

i only see the defendants post conviction and collect whatever $$ the judge has ordered. reguardless of what my defendants think, i don't set the fines (these aren't always the best and the brightest)

Yes for Texas and any other state I do not know. It also can depend on how many times you had a fine and Judges sometimes do as they please.
