I have heard that Mercedes cost a lot to keep running, is this true?
2002 Mercedes Benz C-Class "C230 Kompressor"?
Yes. Parts range to reasonable to double a non-luxury car.
Labor costs are at least double, however. This applies to regular maint. as well as repairs.
The engine will run forever. The problems are electronics, AC, tranny, etc. This is a very unreliable car, and was built at the lowpoint of MB reliability.
Of course, if you can get one with MB's Starmark warranty, that eliminates most costs.
Reply:When people hear "Mercedes", they most likely will pair that with the word "expensive". The c230 is a very good car. Don't let people say it's expensive to maintain. I've done research on parts, and have seen that they are affordable. One person told me brake discs for a c230 would be double what he payed for his discs. Turns out I could do a whole brake job for just about what he paid for just his discs. If you get the car, just keep it regularly maintained, "A" service one year, "B" the next. You can get an "A" service done for less than $200 at a reputable place. And, imagine this: even if a certain part for the c230 costs more than a similar part for a different car, imagine how many more times the other car is going to have to be fixed, and how loooooong your's will go without needing to be replaced. Also the kompressor up to model year 2005 has a 4 cyl engine, so it will be very good on gas.
Benzos are great cars...they will last a long time.
Reply:No, If you have a service plan its not really that expensive.
If you go and destroy something in the car, it will be expensive but it will also be more powerful than before.
Reply:yes, and they're very unreliable now
Reply:Thats is not true whatever somebody told you. Even with high milege they can still run for a long time. And my dealer told me that they are good cars and they dont require a lot of maintance.
Reply:yes, especially on that model
Reply:Yes
Reply:you got it right, very expensive to maintain but is very easy to get your wallet "k"ompressed..
Reply:The problem with all top marques is labour charges. Our local Merc dealer charges £70+ an hour. The local Jaguar dealer over £100. A lubrication service for the Merc at those rates costs about £200, with £60 worth of Castrol Edge oil included. (It is the same price in Halfords). A maintenance service costs about £500. The auto service indicator has indicated a service about every 12-15 thousand miles and I do a fair bit of town running. I have not needed any but yes, Merc only ENGINEERED parts are expensive, but no worse than several others. Interestingly silly bits like interior light door switches, jacking point blocks etc are under £4( mine got damaged), so they don't profiteer on simple and plastic bits like some do. Merc had a bad quality patch in the early 2000's, but have now reinstated the quality system they 'economised' on in the late 90's. There are a number of ex dealer Merc specialists about who will save you a packet on labour costs, but make sure they have a diagnostic computer. By the way, the supercharger is a model of simplicity and is extremely reliable. The local dealer's experience is one dodgy allegation of excessive noise in 3 years.
