Is Mercedes Benz going to release a diesel C-Class in the US this year?

E,ML,and GL. I wish we could get the S class again.

Is Mercedes Benz going to release a diesel C-Class in the US this year?
With BMW's 3 series (and X5) diesel coming at the end of 2008; I doubt that Mercedes will be far behind. The current 3.0liter diesel M-B offers in other vehicles in the USA will fit in the C-class, so it is a marketing issue rather than an Engineering Design issue.
Reply:Nope.

The benefits of diesel aren't as inherent for a smaller, lighter car like the C, since they can get pretty good mileage without resorting to it.

Also, to my knowledge they don't have a US emission ready diesel engine for this size car. The Bluetec diesel used in the E-Class could theoretically be made to fit, but that engine isn't designed for the C-Class demographic, which is a younger, sportier crowd.

The diesel image in the US isnt' a sporty one, and MB is concerned about how well a diesel C would sell.

That being said, one day you will probably see diesels across the line. MB is very dedicated to the diesel route moreso than hybrid.
Reply:I am sure with the Blue-Tec coming for the E-Class, it will be only a matter of time before it comes to the C-Class, but probably not for 2-3 years.
