How much is a new C-class and is it a good car? What kind of warrenties come with it?

The prices are not out on the 2008's, but KBB lists the 2007 C230 'Retail Blue Book' (what they say you'll probably pay) at $29,664 without options. The C280 is $33,321, and the C350 $38,391. If you want their AWD system, it will cost you about $1,800 more.

Mercedes all have a 48 month, 50,000 mile warranty. In addition, like all cars, the Feds require them to carry an 8 year, 80,000 mile warranty on some emissions-related parts.

But the frustrations of ownership do not depend on warranty coverage. If your car is always in the shop, you may be glad you are not paying for the work, but you will be ticked off that you don't have the use of your nice car.

That is a lot more likely to happen with a Mercedes than most other cars. There are three brands listed by Consumer Reports in their annual Automotive Issue as being the least reliable. They are Jaguar, Mercedes-Benz, and Range Rover.

A survey showed that Mercedes take more trips to the service department for reasons other than routine maintenance than a Buick. That is not as damning as it may sound, because Buicks are pretty damn reliable, in some cases more reliable than the Toyotas they compete with, but you get the idea.

Some people have good luck with certain brands. (I call it Car-Ma.) I know a guy who loves Alfa Romeos, of all things. My dad had four Jaguars, and his complaints were limited to the door seals on one. You might have good luck with a Mercedes, but the statistics are against you.

As a professional who depends completely on word of mouth for referrals, I cannot afford to recommend cars that are not likely to give good service. Consequently, I seldom find myself recommending Mercedes.

Good shopping, and good luck!

$29,650 - $38,600 . It has great acceleration and decent braking but it also has poor fuel economy.
Reply:C class averages around $30k. I think these are pretty good rides...the 07 models have more hp...faster than your average sedan...

Warranty is 4 years standard bumper to bumper or 50k miles.
